Exercise Science Major with Athletic Training Concentration (EXS)

This dual degree program enables students to receive a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Exercise Science with Athletic Training Concentration from Georgetown College, and a Master of Science in Athletic Training from University of Kentucky. Students complete their foundational coursework at Georgetown College in 6 semesters. From there, students attend the University of Kentucky for 6 semesters (2 years plus summer) to complete their athletic training degree.

Upon completion of the Georgetown College portion of the dual degree program, students will:

  • Demonstrate foundational science and health knowledge as needed for success in athletic training

Required University of Kentucky Coursework: The master’s degree requires 74 additional credits (6 semesters including 2 summers).

Entering the Program: Any student planning to pursue this major should contact the Georgetown College Program Coordinator as soon as possible, preferably in their freshman year.

Admission to the University of Kentucky: Traditionally, students begin their studies at UK after 6 semesters at GC, starting with a summer session. To be eligible to apply, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher with a minimum of “C” or better in all pre-requisite course work. Students must also complete 100 hours of observation with an athletic trainer, have CPR certification, and other requirements as outlined in the UK application process.

Dual degree students may choose one of the following options to participate in a Georgetown College commencement ceremony:

  • Participate in the ceremony during the student’s final semester at GC
  • Participate in the ceremony during the semester the student’s incoming class graduates
  • Participate in the ceremony during the semester the student completes both UK and GC degrees

Students must notify the Georgetown College Office of the Registrar of their preferred option two semesters before leaving GC.
