Editing and Publishing (EPB)

Students in the Editing and Publishing minor will learn about print and digital publishing and acquire the skills needed to be successful as writers, editors, or publication designers. Two core courses introduce students to the field of publishing and teach subjects such as copyediting, developmental editing, digital publishing, and magazine design. For their electives, students interested only in writing and editing can take English courses that focus on writing, text evaluation, and editing, while those interested only in publication design can take art or theater courses that focus on developing the visual arts skills needed in that field. However, if students are interested in both editing and publication design, they can complete the minor with a self-selected variety of courses.

Students will have the opportunity to do internships. They will also work on Inscape, the magazine of student writing published each year by Sigma Tau Delta, the English honorary society.

The Editing and Publishing minor will help prepare students for editing or design jobs in print and digital publishing. However, the knowledge and skills it provides will also be useful in marketing, communication, technical writing, and writing for fields such as business, the sciences, or any of the humanities
